College Baseball Highlights: Two-Way Dominance, Grand Slams, and a No-Hitter (Velo Report Week 6)

VeloU Athletes Shine Again Across NCAA Baseball and Beyond

Week 6 of the college baseball season was filled with two-way dominance, elite pitching performances, and clutch offensive firepower from VeloU athletes at every level — including our first-ever high school spotlight.

From Michael Lombardi's do-it-all weekend for Tulane, to Jack Arcamone’s latest grand slam, and a no-hitter from 2024 draft prospect Justice Dejong, here’s a full breakdown of the top performances in this week’s Velo Report.

Michael Lombardi Steals the Show for Tulane

If you're looking for the definition of a two-way standout, look no further than Michael Lombardi. The Tulane junior played first base, hit two home runs, recorded two saves on the mound, and touched 96 MPH — all in a single weekend series vs. Wichita State.

Michael Lombardi Delivers a Pitch for Tulane

Lombardi:

  • Homered in Game 1 from the 3-hole
  • Closed out Game 2 with a 2-inning save
  • In Game 3, hit a go-ahead homer in the 8th, then closed it out in the 9th

It was an elite-level display from a legit MLB Draft prospect — and a performance that made Lombardi our VeloU Player of the Week.

Mikey Byrns Racks Up 12 Ks and Pitcher of the Week Honors

Following close behind Lombardi is Fredonia’s Mikey Byrns, who was also part of the same Fox Lane High School pitching staff.

Byrns was electric this week:

  • 6.2 innings
  • 1 hit allowed
  • 12 strikeouts

The outing earned him SUNYAC Pitcher of the Week honors and solidified his spot among D3’s most effective arms this season.

Big Bats Stay Hot: Arcamone, Guzman, Keenan, Agresti

  • Jack Arcamone (Richmond): 6-for-13 with another grand slam, raising his average to .438
  • Adonys Guzman (Arizona): 5-for-15 with two home runs vs. West Virginia
  • Jimmy Keenan (Wake Forest): Grand slam vs. Clemson, his third homer of the season
  • Adam Agresti (St. John’s): Added his third home run of the year vs. Winthrop

BackstopU stays active — and loud — this week.

Standout Arms Across the Board

Jerry Guzman and the First High School Feature: Justice Dejong

  • Jerry Guzman (St. Michael’s): 5-for-15 weekend, batting average up to .364
  • Justice Dejong (Poly Prep): Our first-ever high school appearance on the Velo Report — and for good reason.
Dejong threw a no-hitter with 5 strikeouts, running it up to 95 MPH. He’s currently ranked No. 60 in the country by PBR.
